Install rabbitmq as a service on ubuntu

This post shows you how to install RabbitMq and start rabbitMQ server

rabbitmq-server is included in standard Debian and Ubuntu repositories. However, the versions included are often quite old. Consider installing latest version of it.

RabbitMQ needs Erlang/OTP to run.

Installing Erlang/OTP

To add Erlang Solutions repository (including our public key for apt-secure) to your system

 

wget https://packages.erlang-solutions.com/erlang-solutions_1.0_all.deb

sudo dpkg -i erlang-solutions_1.0_all.deb

Next, add the Erlang Solutions public key for apt-secure

wget https://packages.erlang-solutions.com/ubuntu/erlang_solutions.asc

sudo apt-key add erlang_solutions.asc

Refresh the repository cache and install erlang

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install erlang

Install rabbitMQ server

To avoid warnings about unsigned packages run the bellow command

wget -O- https://www.rabbitmq.com/rabbitmq-release-signing-key.asc | sudo apt-key add -

update the package list

sudo apt-get update

Now install rabbitMQ-server

sudo apt-get install rabbitmq-server

Now let’s see how to start rabbitmq

To start rabbitMQ Server

service rabbitmq-server start

To stop rabbitMQ server

service rabbitmq-server stop

To check rabbitMQ server status

service rabbitmq-server status
